The Language of Enthusiasm

It’s no secret that I’m passionate about authentic voices in the market; for people to share their stories in their words. Here’s why.

I want you to think about the things you get excited about sharing. I usually use the example of travelling; you just came back from an AMAZING trip (pre-covid) and are so excited to tell people every single detail.

Why is that exciting?

Because it’s something that happened to YOU. It’s something YOU thought was awesome. YOU know exactly how to tell the story.

Any guess at the common denominator?

YOU :)

Your enthusiasm comes through in your story because all you’re concerned about are those things. Not that you use the right words to describe an event, or that you have the perfect response to a question (which are just a couple of things that stop us from sharing our enthusiasm in a work environment).

So, how can we extrapolate that into our brand messaging?

Being Enthusiastic in YOUR Way

First of all, some framing: the things that you are enthusiastic about, are not the same things that I’m enthusiastic about. This is an important thing to remember, as is the fact that MY enthusiasm looks different than yours.

Each individual has a certain base state. A vibration if you will. Some people vibrate at a higher level. Some stay more consistent.

And people attract others with similar vibrations.

One is not better or worse than the others. But often, when we observe someone else’s enthusiasm (and like it), we think we need to vibrate on THEIR same level.

We think we need to learn THEIR language.

And effort in that direction is OPPOSITE to our personal brand.

Let’s say you self-identify as an introvert. You experience someone - clearly extroverted - and decide you just need to be like THAT.

How hard does that feel?

And how AUTHENTIC does it feel?

Not very.

When it comes to finding the way to feel more authentic, trying to do things someone else’s way is not the path. And just because that’s something that attracts YOU, doesn’t mean the same thing is what attracts YOUR clients ;)

Writing Your Language of Enthusiasm

Really, what I could say, is that each of us speaks a different language of enthusiasm. With different energy. With different words. With different stories. With a different stand.

And it’s supposed to be that way.

You’re not SUPPOSED to be the same as anyone else.

So, what if, you spent your time writing your own language instead of learning someone else’s? How much more effective would you be in communicating YOUR message?

Discovering and embracing your personal brand voice is all about learning YOUR vocabulary. And forgetting all the things that STOP you from sharing your enthusiasm.

Because at the end of the day, it’s your message. It exists inside you in your own language. And there are people out there who will FEEL your enthusiasm when you share it from that place.
